It was the best of times...it was the worst of times...

Okay, so I just shamelessly ripped off Charles Dickens, but I am pretty sure I am not the first person to do that! And I don't expect to the be the last either. :-)

But, I thought I would make a couple of lists for you guys...I will keep my lists shorter than Letterman's lists, though.

So, here we go...

My 5 + 1 Least Favorite Things about Being Pregnant (in no particular order)

1. Tummy spills -- All you moms out there know what I mean. It seems like every thing I eat is ending up on my tummy. Maybe these things used to fall on the floor or on my lap and now my tummy is in the way. Or maybe I really have lost that much coordination. Who knows?

2. Sore and swollen feet -- Ouch! Enough said...except to say swollen hands causing carpal tunnel problems at night. But that would be another number...

3. Diet Coke -- Dang, I miss it! Way back during the first few weeks, the doctor told me that caffeine could increase the chance of miscarriage so I made a deal with my husband to cut my Diet Coke habit until after we welcome our new baby. I have had a few sips of his Dr. Pepper a couple of times, but I am still missing Diet Coke.

4. Bending at the waist -- or what used to be my waist. Any of these types of activities such as tying shoelaces, sorting laundry, picking up trash, or whatever...can leave me out of breath for a short minute.

5. Tired -- just tired. There are days when I can hardly make myself crawl to bed. Sometimes, it is body tired and sometimes it is brain tired and on those really GREAT days, it is both.

6. Touching the tummy -- I had always heard about this one, but now I know. It is a very odd sensation to have someone (friend or not) touch your tummy while you talk. Hmmmm???

And to keep things even...

My 5 Favorite Things about being Pregnant

1. Feeling my baby boy move -- and move and move and move and move! As far as I can tell, he likes to kick, jump, punch, dance, wrestle, somersault, etc etc.

2. Everyone's excitement -- everyone I meet is just so excited for us. People's positive energy has just been so nice. A guy at Sweet Tomatoes told me Congratulations on Saturday. Random! But sweet.

3. No heavy lifting -- no one lets me carry anything. Dang.

4. Snacking - I no longer feel guilty about snacking anywhere and everywhere. It is me and the toddlers at church. YUM! I even stole an oreo from a student the other day. He knew better than to question the pregnant lady.

5. An even greater connection with Tom - okay, this may seem super cheesy, but it is true. I really love planning for this major event in our lives together. Whether it is discussing the pros and cons of cloth diapers or practicing breathing through contractions, I feel like even preparing for the little one is bringing us closer. I know that my baby has an amazing dad and that he will be so lucky to grow up with Tom as his role model.

I am sure I could come up with a million more for each of these lists, but I will stop here.

Only 8 more weeks, people! Teeny Cinquini is going to join us so soon!!

  1. I totally agree with you about the weirdness of people touching your tummy - I never could get used to it.

But I politely disagree with the snacking - I hate being hungry all the time and having to not only worry about snacks for Amelia to eat, but for me too :)
