Photos of my boys

I don't have a lot of exciting stories to share. I am amazed at how fast time is flying, but how little seems to happen. But I do have two very cute boys.

Sleeping.

I love this one of Cole. You can see the dimple in his chin (thanks, daddy!) and just how beautiful he is.

Corbin got this roll of paper and a large pack of paper from grandma. He loves to draw so it is perfect!

Not 100 % sure how this happened. It was the middle of the night - maybe he sneezed?

The one eyed wrestling pirate!

One of Coles more awake moments. He makes this pursed lip look a lot.

Corbin reading a book to Cole and me while I am nursing. Such a good big brother!

I found these bathtub soap paints at babies r us. Corbin loved them and used all of them on his first bath with them. Oh well - so be it.

The walls of the tub still need to be hosed down. Maybe tomorrow my artist will be my cleaning buddy. Maybe?

Big brother

A lot of people have asked how Corbin is doing with our new addition. If you know him, you know that Corbin is very social and loves attention. I was very worried about how he would react to sharing attention. Overall, he has done really well.

Aunt Sarah brought Corbin to the hospital on that Saturday evening. He also was going to spend the next night at my sisters so her family was there too. Tom went downstairs to meet Corbin and sarah came upstairs to be the one holding Cole when Corbin got there. I had read that suggestion in several articles about helping older siblings. This way Corbin had my full attention when he got there.

He immediately wanted up on the bed with me and asked - Mommy, what are you doing? We talked a bit and I asked if he wanted to meet his baby brother. Not yet, he told me. He got down and explored the room for a while before I told him that the baby had a gift for him. (Another hint from the experts). He came back on my lap and opened his present. With each item, he would say, thank you, baby.

We then brought Cole over for the introduction.

Overall, it went well with just a few pokes. Corbin also thought it was funny to pull the baby's hat over his face because Cole would react so much. Note to self - keep an eye out for that one.

Overall - I was pleased with that first interaction and things have been fairly good since. A couple older brother meltdowns when mom can't carry both of them but Corbin has been a good helper and thinks his brother is pretty interesting. And Corbin is still the star of the show most of the time since baby brother mostly just eats, sleeps, and poops.

Here's a couple more photos of Corbin lately.

Early Arrival

So my due date is January 22 - tomorrow. I had planned to work for two weeks after winter break, be done on the 17th, and allow my sub to cover finals. I figured Corbin was 3 days late so this baby would probably not come too early.

Well, tomorrow is that due date and here I sit with a 17 day old baby sleeping in my arms. Obviously, this one wasn't listening to me make plans.

On the 3rd, Corbin and I met a friend from high school and her son at one of those indoor playgrounds. I met another pregnant mama and we discussed how unprepared we were for baby #2. Ha ha, we laughed, we should probably pack our hospital bags - only 3 weeks to go.

After play time, Corbin and I went to lunch where he took 90 minutes to eat. It was fun to have the lazy time with him knowing there wasn't going to be a lot of those times left with a new baby coming.

After visiting Aunt Sarah, we headed home. We got pizza with Tom and then watched a movie as a family. When it was over, I stood up and my pants were wet. I thought - could it be my water breaking? It wasn't anything dramatic but it seemed odd. Nahhh- and we gave Corbin a bath.

As we did, I felt like I was getting wetter every time I moved but if really didn't know. We have made many trips to labor and delivery this pregnancy so I hated to immediately jump in that direction again. But that's what we ended up doing. My mom came to watch Corbin and off we went.

As we waited for the midwife, I convinced myself that I had just had an embarrassing accident and we would be going home soon. But when the midwife ran her tests, it was obvious - my water had broken and I wasn't going home that night.

Instead they admitted me and suggested to tom and me that we get some sleep. I was having a contraction every now and then, but I wasn't even really feeling them. We would probably need to start pitocin in the morning to get labor going. So Tom ran home to get some stuff for us and his sister came to take over for my mom watching Corbin. And I tried to sleep. How can you sleep knowing you are going to have a baby the next day? And that you are about to experience total pain? Yeah, I didn't get that much rest.

So at 6 they started the IV of pitocin and contractions were pretty regular by 9 and pretty painful by 10. At 11, they said I was dialated to a 6.5 and they would check again in 2 hours. I asked for some painkillers so I could rest a bit. Right before noon,I told them I was feeling pressure and when they checked they realized baby was on his way.

I pushed for about 15 minutes or so and just as I really wondered why I didn't get an epidural, baby boy made his grand entrance. 12:25 pm on January 4, 2014.

Winter break wrap up

For most of our winter break we were able to play lots with Corbin and do some small things to get ready for the new baby coming.

End of dinner - green bean on forehead. Pasta sauce everywhere else.

Out to eat with cousin Nate.

Trying to convince mom that the new baby's clothes could still fit big boy Corbin.

Being super silly. Marching and singing and wearing a very small onesie on his head.

More silliness. Trying on some of the Christmas stockings that gifts came in. This made us all laugh so hard. Corbin was very pleased with this joke.

Toasting in the new year (Ding, mama, ding!) at 9 pm.

Driving home an hour later.
